When We Are Closed

  1. Out of HoursBy telephoning directly our answering service telephone 020 8693-9066, give your name (patient’s name if different) age, address and telephone number, giving as much information as possible about the illness for which an emergency home visit is required. Your call will be passed on to your doctor. Keep your telephone free (if you are telephoning from a public call box stay near it!), as your doctor will ring back as soon as possible and will decide on a visit, admission, observation, or in some cases sending a DUTY doctor. Or in suitable cases, medication may be arranged through a local chemist.
  2. If you do not remember the answering-service telephone number, you may ring the surgery where an answering machine will give you the instructions – but please do not leave messages
  3. For any worries on health problems call the confidential NHS 24-hour helpline on 0845 4647 (local call rate). This service has nurses to talk to you and either the operator or nurse will advise you on what to do. They can also contact a doctor if required.
